Throughout the year there are demonstrations or workshops by invited artists on various media and techniques.

  • We welcome new members at all levels of experience, the only essential is enthusiasm.

  • There is no formal tuition, but a friendly atmosphere leads to an exchange of ideas on materials and techniques between members.

  • There is opportunity to see fellow artists at work.

  • Members skills range from the experienced artist to those of recent beginners.

  • If interested , just come along to a Saturday morning meeting and see what goes on, have a chat to some of the members, bring a sketch book and join in, everyone is very supportive.

Susan Lucas

I have lived in St Helens all my life and have worked in administration since leaving school at 16.  When my only son Andrew turned twelve he started to go out with friends on weekends and wasn't needing my services as taxi driver, chef or general dogsbody, this left me time to pursue something that I had always been interested in and that was art.

Therefore after beginning art classes at St Helens College on a Saturday mornings I went on to join the Art club in 1999, also attending life classes at the college around the same time. I have served as a committee member for the club and am a regular exhibiter at the annual exhibition. Through attending the college and joining the art club I have made some really good friends and acquaintances.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and have achieved some good results with the many still life subjects and portraits set up by club members.  I have also enjoyed the many days out to local places and looked at the everyday views through new eyes.

The beauty of being a member of the art club is that you don't have to attend every Saturday, with the busy lives we all are now living; it’s good to know that you can turn up after a few missed sessions and still have a friendly conversation with the other members.
