I joined the club in 1999, and in 2001 became an active committee member. I am a regular exhibitor in the clubs annual exhibition and have won The Marjorie Clarke award for my watercolour and ink painting
I have also been selected to exhibit in the St Helens Open and my work has been on display at the World of Glass. In 2008 I was awarded the Capital of Culture category in the St Helens Open for my painting titled The Re-Birth
I enjoy working and experimenting with most media, Including acrylic, charcoal, ink, pastels, pencil and water colour. My favourite subjects are life study, abstracts landscapes and flowers.
I continue as an active member enjoying painting still life, life study and demonstrations in the winter months. In the summer months I enjoy the opportunity of participating with the other members painting outdoors

I have lived in St Helens all my life and have worked in administration since leaving school at 16. When my only son Andrew turned twelve he started to go out with friends on weekends and wasn't needing my services as taxi driver, chef or general dogsbody, this left me time to pursue something that I had always been interested in and that was art.
Therefore after beginning art classes at St Helens College on a Saturday mornings I went on to join the Art club in 1999, also attending life classes at the college around the same time. I have served as a committee member for the club and am a regular exhibiter at the annual exhibition. Through attending the college and joining the art club I have made some really good friends and acquaintances.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and have achieved some good results with the many still life subjects and portraits set up by club members. I have also enjoyed the many days out to local places and looked at the everyday views through new eyes.
The beauty of being a member of the art club is that you don't have to attend every Saturday, with the busy lives we all are now living; it’s good to know that you can turn up after a few missed sessions and still have a friendly conversation with the other members.
